Turlapati Kiran, an alumni of IIT Madras arrested by Hyderabad police in Mumbai
Hyderabad: The police has traced the location of the alleged Harley-Davidson thief to Mumbai. Police also found that the man belongs to Hyderabad. Using his phone’s call records and CCTV footage from junctions along the highway, special teams nabbed him at Mumbai.
Sources said the accused was identified as Turlapati Kiran, an alumni of IIT Madras who is working for ONGC. He is the son of a former Army officer named Prakash Rao who stays at Sainikpuri.
To divert the attention of showroom staff, he spoke in Hindi and introduced himself to them as Tahir Ali. He chose a Street 750 model bike worth around Rs 6 lakh for a test drive.
After riding around 500 metres from the showroom he gave the miss to the accompanying showroom staffer and fled towards Alwal via Begumpet.
During the analysis of his mobile call records, the police reportedly found that before coming to the showroom he had spoken to one of his friends working at the Mumbai Shipyard. Based on clues, a team of five cops from Banjara Hills, reached Mumbai and nabbed the accused and seized the bike from him.
However, the police did not confirm the reports saying that special teams have been formed to nab the accused and investigation is still on.
