Sitaram Yechury hails alliance of JD(S)-Congress in BBMP
Yechury has welcomed the alliance of secular forces in BBMP to stop BJP from coming to power
Mangaluru: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has welcomed the alliance of secular forces in BBMP to stop BJP from coming to power in the civic body.
“Both (Congress and JD-S) are democratic parties. If anybody has a clear mandate, they could have come to power in BBMP. But there is no clear mandate, so it is good if secular parties come together,” Mr Yechury told DC.
On his way to Kasargod, Mr Yechury visited Sunder Malekudiya, who was seriously injured after he was allegedly attacked by a landlord in Belthangady last month. “We had passed the Tribal Forest Bill many years ago. But despite this, feudal landlorism continues. This is inhuman,” he told reporters after speaking to Sunder Malekudiya. “The family which attacked Sunder has high connections with political parties. A proper inquiry should be conducted without any bias,” he said.
Expressing concern over the murder of former Hampi University VC M.M. Kalburgi, he said the killing of rationalist thinkers in Maharashtra and now Kalburgi was an indication of powers in India patronising such reactionary forces who are openly indulged in moral policing.
