Hyderabad: Sundar Washington followed up his brilliant seven-wicket haul with a fine century as MRF assumed command of their match against Food Corporation of India at the annual Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament being played in the twin cities, on Thursday.

Washington, who had picked 7 for 55 on Day One, hit 131 off 178 balls — a knock containing 16 fours — as MRF replied to FCI’s 283 with a 296. FCI were gasping at 34 for 4 at the close of play on Thursday.

Meanwhile at the Gymkhana Grounds, Air India batted well against Hyderabad XI, but the hosts’ powerhouse first innings performance — when they scored a mammoth 465 for 7 in just 90 overs — meant that an impressive 337 for 9 in 89 overs wasn’t enough for AI to gain a foothold in the match. They still trail Hyderabad XI by 128 runs.

Himanshu Asnora top-scored for AI with 82 while Hiten Dalal made 74. For Hyderabad, Vishal Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 72. C.V. Milind (3 for 61) and Ashish Reddy (2 for 68) too sent down successful spells.

Elsewhere at Vijayanand Gardens, Kushal Mindis slammed 156 (210b, 17x4, 1x6) as the Sri Lanka developmental team grabbed their match against Hyderabad President’s XI by the throat. In reply to President’s XI’s 290, the Sri Lankans scored 401 for 8 in just 87 overs. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Nitesh Rana hit 127 (214b, 18x4, 6x3) as ONGC made just 272 in reply to India Cements’ 353.
