After a long gap of 15 years actress Shamili, better known to us as the chubby and cute Baby Shamili, is back to Malayalam films with Valliyum Thetti Puliyum Thetti by debutant director Rishi Shivakumar. Interestingly, she is making her comeback opposite Kunchacko Boban, with whom her sister Shalini had also made her comeback.
“We were planning to cast a new face as the heroine for the movie initially. It was Chakochan who suggested Shamili to us at the time. So we approached her with the script. It’s a role that will showcase the actress in a very beautiful avatar. She too had been waiting for a role like that for her comeback and readily agreed to do the movie and gave us the dates. The film is based in the 90s and gives a lot of importance to love, friendship and relationships,” says Rishi.
Shamili is also pegged to play the heroine opposite Dhanush and Vikram Prabhu in two upcoming Tamil films and one of those projects was meant to mark her comeback. Rishi explains, “Shamili was planning to make her comeback through Tamil when we met her. But the way we presented the movie to her got her attracted to this script. It wasn’t just a discussion and narration of the storyline. We performed the script for her, complete with music as the film also gives a lot of importance to music. It was a very different and dramatic approach and it instantly clicked with her. She said it was the first time that a film was performed before her that way and it attracted her to the script. This made her choose to make her comeback through Malayalam.”
The shoot of the film will begin in October and the other cast members include Manoj K Jayan, Aju Varghese, Renji Panicker, Saiju Kurup, Suresh Krishna and Aneesh Menon. Interestingly, the teaser photograph launched by the team, which showcased Shamili draped in a blue shawl with only her eyes revealed, was clicked by Thala Ajith, husband of Shamili’s sister Shalini, for the film crew.
