Though Keerthy Suresh has done hardly a handful of films in Malayalam, the actress is already emerging as a prominent actress in Kollywood. Though the actress is yet to find an offer that lets her share screen space with her idol, Rajnikanth, she has been cast opposite his son-in-law, Dhanush, in her upcoming movie directed by Prabhu Solomon.
“It’s a great experience working with someone like Dhanush. He is a great performer and very experienced and I have been able to learn a lot of things from him about acting just from observing him,” she says. But she adds slyly, “He doesn’t talk much though. He just maintains a ‘Hi-Bye’ relationship. He usually just sits in a corner all shrivelled up and doesn’t socialise that much.” The yet to be titled movie is based on a train journey and is being mostly shot in a set created in Chennai.
Keerthy says it’s the chance to work with Prabhu Solomon, the director of the movie, which she has found even more interesting. “He is a director who usually picks relatively new faces for his films and many of these finds of his have made it big because of the success of his films like Mynaa (Amala Paul) and Kumki (Lakshmi Menon). He is very choosy when it comes to casting and is particular that the actor and actress should resemble features of the characters he envisions. I have heard him say that he chose some heroines because they have beautiful big eyes. But in my case, he said it was my smile that attracted him. He acts really well and acts out the scenes for us before the shoot. So it’s really easy and fun to work with him,” she explains.
Keerthy was rumoured to be part of a Jeeva movie. “I hadn’t signed the project and we were just discussing the project. However, it didn’t work out because of some date issues. I am now waiting for the release of my movie Rajani Murugan, which stars Sivakarthikeyan as the male lead and directed by Ponram. My recent Tamil release, Idhu Enna Mayam, didn’t do so well in the theatres, but I had a good role in that. So, now my expectations are on Rajini Murugan which is releasing on September 17. I’ll know what the Tamil audience actually think about me with the release of this movie. I also have a Telugu project, Harikatha, in which Ram Kokineni plays the lead. I play an introvert urban girl in the film directed by Kishore and the shoot is yet to start. I am also discussing a script with Mani Ratnam sir and I hope that will work out,” she says.
Ask her why she hasn’t been seen in many Malayalam movies yet and she says, “I don’t know why, but most of my offers seem to be coming from Kollywood now. Many are even asking me if I’m staying away from Malayalam on purpose. But there’s no such thing. I’m happy to work in Malayalam. Luckily, neither in my Tamil nor in my Telugu movies do I have roles that require exaggerated emoting. So it’s going great and I’m lucky to find different roles to work in both Tamil and Telugu.”
