BBMP corporator Diwan Ali’s brother hacked to death
It is not known where exactly Nayaz was heading when he was murdered
BENGALURU: The 35-year-old brother of slain rowdy sheeter and BBMP corporator Diwan Ali was brutally hacked to death by a gang of six assailants near a hotel at Thippasandra Handpost in Kudur in Ramanagar district on Friday morning. The villagers nabbed four of them and roughed them up, following which they were hospitalised.
The deceased has been identified as Nayaz Ali, a resident of Yarabnagar in Banashankari. He was a rowdy sheeter in Banashankari police station and reportedly involved in several cases including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and other cases.
Police said that Nayaz had gone to Kamat Hotel on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway to have breakfast. Around 8.30 am, a gang of six assailants barged inside the restaurant and tried to attack him. On seeing them, Nayaz tried to escape but the assailants caught him few metres away from the restaurant. They brutally hacked him to death.
Shocked by the incident, the other guests at the restaurant ran helter-skelter and all business establishments in the vicinity downed shutters and remained shut for several hours.
However, while the assailants were trying to escape on their bikes, the villagers nabbed four of them and thrashed them before handing them over to police. The four have been identified as Nadeem, Waseem, Tousif and Toufiq, all residents of Yarabnagar and surrounding areas. By the time the police came the four were almost unconscious and they were immediately shifted to Magadi Taluk Government Hospital. As their condition was serious they were later shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru.
“It is not known where exactly Nayaz was heading when he was murdered. His car driver was the only one who accompanied him and he was absconding. It is suspected that the car driver was the one who passed on the information to the assailants. They came on two bikes. Nayaz’s car and a bike used by the assailants have been seized from the spot,” the police said.
Police have formed teams to crack the case and preliminary probe suggest that the murder was due to old rivalry, the Kudur police, who have registered a case, said. It may be recalled that Diwan Ali, a notorious history sheeter and corporator from Banashankari Temple ward, was shot at and hacked to death by his rival gang members on January 16, 2011.
