Pakistan violates ceasefire twice, jawan injured

Pak troops violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Krishna Ghati sector

Jammu: An Army jawan was injured as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire on Saturday by firing on forward posts along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

"Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district around 0745 hours," a Defence Spokesman said.

In another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops targeted forward posts along the LoC in Hamirpur sector in Poonch district from 2150 hours to 2215 hours last night, he said.

In the Pakistani firing, a jawan was injured, he said adding troops retaliated. With these ceasefire violations, the number of such violations has gone up to six in September.

On September 4, Pakistani Rangers had fired two burst of small arms and two mortar shells on posts along IB in R S Pura sector of Jammu district around 0200 hours. On September 3, the Pakistan army had targeted Bhimber Gali (BG) sector of the LoC in Poonch district by resorting to small arms firing from 2320 to 2330 hours. On September 2, the Pakistan army had targeted Krishna Ghati sector of the LoC in Poonch district and Indian troops responded appropriately and effectively. On September 1, Pakistan troops had fired on a Forward Defence Location (FDL).

Eleven people were killed, including two jawans, and over 30 injured in August in ceasefire violations by Pakistan. There have been 57 violations of the border ceasefire agreement by Pakistan in August and over 250 ceasefire violations in the year so far.
