Rs 60,620 crore FDI in last four years, says P Thangamani

Chennai: Industries and transport minister P. Thangamani on Friday said that the state government had attracted foreign investment to the tune of Rs 60,620 crore in the last four years.
Citing statistics provided by Union government’s department of industrial policy, Mr Thangamani in his reply during the demand for grants on industries and transport said that the state’s total foreign investment from 2000 to 2011 was a mere Rs 33,105 crore but the investment doubled in the past four years.
Tamil Nadu’s total production in the manufacturing sector went up from Rs 4,47,944 crore in 2012-13 to Rs 4,80,618 crore in 2013-14 fiscal.
He pointed out that according to Federation of Indian Exports Organisation statistics, Tamil Nadu stood third in the country in terms of total exports to the tune of Rs 2,15,400 crore in 2013-14.
Recalling multinational giants like Ford, Hyundai, Nokia and Foxconn opened their facility in Tamil Nadu during the AIADMK regime, the minister said that in 2014-15, 1,43,104 micro small and medium enterprises (MSME) had registered in the state, which also led to investment of Rs 23,349.65 crore and has generated 6,51,180 jobs.
Mr Thangamani said that 14 lakh cars have been manufactured in Tamil Nadu in a year, Tamil Nadu constitutes to 37 per cent of leather industry in the country, besides the state has 32.40 per cent of MSME in the country.
