Bengaluru: Bengaluru is all set to host the 38th edition of ‘Pacific Asia Travel Association Travel Mart’ (PATA) from Sunday till Tuesday at the Bangalore International Exhibition Center (BIEC). The event, which is expected to put Bengaluru on the global map of tourism and increase tourist inflow into the state, will host over 1,200 delegates and media representatives from 61 countries.
Travel trade representatives, officials from different airlines, hoteliers and corporates are taking part in the tourism’s mega show. Majority of Indian states and Union Territories too are taking part in the travel mart.
This edition of PATA in the city is unique as it will host, for the first time, an investment forum. Karnataka will showcase its tourism attractions and other tourism merchandise to the international audience. A complimentary half-day city tour has also been organised for the delegates on the first day.
The PATA Technology Forum, which will be held on Sunday, aims to throw light on the IT scenario in the state. Participants will understand Indian travelers’ shopping and booking behaviours, learn about segments that are poised for online and mobile success and also explore innovative travel solutions.
The forum will focus on how key global market players are redefining their business models to adapt to the accelerated pace in which communication, marketing and loyalty initiatives play an important role. The Tourism Ministry will discuss ways for the government and private sectors to work together for the development of tourism sector.

What will be the focus areas of PATA?
On the first day, we will have a technology summit which will showcase the strength of Bengaluru in the technology space. There are many startups that have come up with innovative services and products; which will be displayed. We will have an investor summit, which is happening for the first time in PATA. We hope to see many MOU’s being signed and exchanged at the meet.
How many delegates will attend?
We are expecting over 1,000 delegates from 61 countries. Then we have all the states and Union Territories taking part.
Which part of Karnataka will be the main focus?
Bengaluru is still not explored as a tourist destination and we want to promote the city. In our state, we have beaches, adventure sports options, wildlife, hills and so on. We want to display it all to the world. We have 319 destinations in all. Already, many delegates are planning a trip to Hampi and other tourist destinations in the state.
Any focus on local tourism?
As you enter the event, you will see Channapatna toys, silk saris and exclusive Karnataka cuisine on display.
