CM Chandrababu Naidu sets literacy target in Andhra Pradesh

Seeks teachers’ cooperation to achieve 100 per cent literacy

Visakhapatnam: Lamenting that AP is lagging behind among other states in the country in  primary education sector, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu asked the teachers to come up with innovative teaching to put the state on the top. He also set a target to achieve 100 per cent literacy in the state by 2019 and sought teachers’ cooperation in achieving it.

Talking at the Gurupu-jothsavam organised by the state government on the occasion of 125th birth anniversary of former president of India  Dr Sarvepalli Radhakri-shnan, the Chief Mini-ster here on Saturday asserted that the state government would ens-ure all support to the education sector by providing infrastructure and all the other facilities to teachers and students.

“It’s unfortunate that AP stands 31st among 35 states and UTs across the country in primary education. Very sad that the education sector has been neglected in the last 10 years. We will provide all the facilities to the teachers, and also fill all the vacant posts, but in return teachers should ensure 100 per cent literacy by 2019 and put the state on top among other states and make AP a knowledge state,” he said.

Mr Naidu also said there are chances that all the teachers across the state would get e-tabs or I-Pads that can be used for teaching and all the schools will be provided with WiFi and get online education. The government schools will be provided with all facilities so that quality education is also available to the poor students on par with children from affluent families.   

He stressed the importance of the Private Universities Bill the state government is proposed to table in the state Assembly shortly, Mr Naidu said it will pave the way for the establishment of world class universities and hoped that in future they would stand among the top 15 varsities in the country. He reminded that it was his efforts that brought ISB, Nalsar,  Urdu varsity to Hyderabad during his earlier regime.

The Chief Minister launched websites of MHRD and Andhra University’s alumni association. He urged the old students of Andhra University to set up a corpus for the development of the varsity. HRD minister Ganta  Srinivas Rao expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for increasing the budget to the education sector to 16 per cent from meager 10 per cent.

Vizag MP Kambh-ampati Haribabu urged the Chief Minister to fill teaching  posts across all the varsities in the state including Andhra University. Mr Naidu later gave away awards to best teachers.
