Five Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh
Necessary assistance will be provided to them as per the rehabilitation
Raipur: Five Naxals, including two women, surrendered, on Sunday, in insurgency-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, citing disappointment with the alleged exploitation of lower rank cadres by senior Maoist leaders from Andhra Pradesh, said police.
The cadres identified as Ramesh Wacham (25), Pidoram Wekko (19), Raju Lekam (22), Laxmi Madkam (22) and Chinni Oyam (25) turned themselves in before senior police officials said Bijapur Superintendent of Police KL Dhruv.
A dreaded cadre - Pidoram was a member military platoon no 13 of Maoists, allegedly involved in executing several naxal incidents in the region, Dhruv said.
He was basically tasked with helping senior leaders during their movement across different districts and zone in Bastar, the SP said, adding that he was carrying a reward of Rs two lakh on his head.
While Ramesh was the commander of Toynar 'Janmilitia' group, Raju was deployed as an LGS (local guerilla squad) member in Andwada of Narayanpur district.
Similarly, Laxmi was part of the national park LGS after joining the movement last year, he said.
As per her statement, she fell in love with Ramesh which was also another reason for her and Ramesh to quit the movement, the official said. The trio was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads.
Necessary assistance will be provided to them as per the rehabilitation and surrender policy of the government, he added.
In a separate incident, a rebel was arrested from a dense forests of Mirtur police station limits during a search operation.
A joint squad of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and district force was on a combing exercise when they spotted a suspect near Cherli village following which they rounded up him after a short chase, the SP said.
The arrested was identified as Somaru Kadti who admitted to his involvement with the outlawed movement during interrogation, he said.
Besides, a muzzle loading gun, an arrow bomb, a pair of bow-arrow, axe and other naxals related materials recovered from his possession, the SP added.
