KOZHIKODE: The nation  honoured the teachers on Saturday, but none has cared for the plight of nearly 1,000  teachers in Malabar zone who have been working in aided schools without salaries for many years.

The state government has not shown any interest in considering their pleas for giving them  employment status under it.

“I have been working  in an aided school since 2011 after paying  Rs 10 lakh for the post  with an assurance from the school management that I will be made permanent within  six months,”  said Reena Madhav, a teacher in a  reputed aided school in the district. “For the last four years,  I have not received any salary, but I have the satisfaction of teaching so many students,” she  said.

“Most of the teachers who work in  aided schools are upset as no appointment has been  made by the  government after 2013,”  said P. Rameshan, aided school teacher at Koyilandy.

“We are worried over  the negligence shown to  us because huge amounts have been  collected from the teachers.  Most of us paid the amounts  hoping to get government salaries soon.  The only ray of hope is a  recent report about the government taking steps for the pending appointments in the aided sector, he said.
