THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An estimated 5,000 Krishnas and Gopikas paraded through the MG road and stole the hearts of the people during the Shobhayatra held as a part of Sreekrishna Jayanti on Saturday.

The CPM,  which  celebrated  Sreekrishna Jayanti with political undertones in North Kerala,  did not make a fuss of it  here.  

However, the Balasangham affiliated to Left parties celebrated Uriyadi near Vanchiyoor and held celebrations at Keshavadapuram.

The main Shobhayatra on MG Road was inaugurated near the  Assembly  by poet Sugatha Kumari  around 4 p.m.

Several smaller Shobhyatras  joined the procession from Vikas Bhavan, PMG, Hanuman temple, Museum, Press Club, General Hospital, Vazhuthacuad, LMS, Mascot Hotel and Housing Board.

Several displays of Lord Krishna like Ambadi Krishnan, Krishnan carrying Govardhana mountain, Alila Kannan, Kaliyamardanam, Ananthashayanam etc were part of the procession.  

The procession ended at Putharikandom grounds with special pooja wherein ghee (thrikaivenna) was offered along with aval from Attukal temple.  

Shobhayatras were held at Neyyatinkara and on Kovalam National Highway  bypass also with Thalappoli, Panchavadyam, fancy umbrella, coloured flags, Chendamelam, tableaux and bhajans.

Balagokulam state president K.P. Babu Raj gave the Sreekrishna Jayanti message while office- bearers like Mukkampalamoodu Radhakrishnan, RSS Vibhaagh Pramukh Kiran and BJP district president Suresh also participated.
