Water shortage looms large over Kurnool
Villages are being supplied drinking water by spending Rs 57.85 lakh
Kurnool: People of Kurnool have to face acute scarcity of drinking water, if there are no rains soon. The water-level in reservoirs touched the lowest point, and even the groundwater has depleted to alarming levels. Around 15,051 hand pumps in the district went out of order. The Rural Water Supply (RWS) officials are taking all measures to meet the drinking crisis.
Of the 2,391 villages, 30 villages are severely affected with drought conditions and another 30 villages are going to follow suit. Water to these villages is being supplied with tankers, by spending Rs 2 crore.
According to the 2011 census, 29,04,177 families are covered under the secure drinking water scheme. This financial year, Rs 38.65 crore was allotted to CPW scheme by the RWS department.
Besides these, 25 sche-mes under NTR Sujala Sravanti Scheme are also working and additional 41 schemes are under process for starting to which Rs 2 crore is allotted through solar energy. Presently, the thirsty villages are being supplied drinking water by spending Rs 57.85 lakh, the RWS officials said.
Kurnool town is also affected with the scarcity of drinking water. Besides Kurnool, Adoni, Nandyal, Dhone, Nandikotkur, Atmakur, Allagadda and Gudur having more than one lakh population has to face water crisis, if rains don't appear in a month.
At present, Kurnool is getting water from K.C. Canal, whereas Nandyal is getting water from Velugoti, Dhone and Pathikonda from Gajula-dinne, Atmakur, Nandik-otkur and Allagadda are getting water from Srisailam reservoir.
