Ongole: A fourteen year old girl was allegedly raped by her relative in Ongole on Monday after he took her out on the pretext of getting an eye check-up done, police said.

The girl, a student of standard IX was studying in a boarding school in Kandukur. Her uncle, identified as Dataiah, 38, went to the hostel on Sunday on the pretext of bringing her to Ongole for an eye checkup, Deputy Superintendent of Police G Srinivasa Rao said.

The accused took her to a lodge where he hired a room while claiming that she was his daughter. However, he raped the girl in the room in the early hours of Monday and fled from there, G Srinivasa said while giving the details of the case.

The victim had approached the lodge management who shifted her to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Ongole.

A case has been registered by Ongole taluka police under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code, Rao said adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused.

District Collector Sujatha Sharma and Kondapi MLA Dr D Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy called on the victim at the RIMS and assured to take necessary action in the matter.
