Debt-ridden Harihar farmer ends life

DavangereA 27-year-old farmer, who attempted suicide by drinking poison at Kadaranayakanahalli in Harihar taluk on Saturday night, died at a private hospital here on Sunday.  The deceased has been identified as Maheshwaraiah. 
 
He owned four acres of land and had taken loans amounting to Rs 4 lakh from a bank and local money-lenders.  His maize crop started withering owing to scanty rainfall. Dejected over this, Maheshwaraiah attempted suicide on Saturday night, according to his family members. Malebennur police have registered a case.
