BENGALURUThe case of three missing children from their Banasawadi school has seen a horrific end with the accused confessing to the police that he has murdered the children by pushing them into a manhole near a mini-forest in HBR Layout in K G Halli. The children were murdered allegedly by their father's cousin, who was allegedly having an affair with their mother, the police said.

The arrested accused, Fayum Baig, 24, an electrician, confessed to the murders after intense interrogation by the police. He had picked up the children while they were returning home from Siddhartha School in Lingarajapuram on August 27. He later took them to the mini-forest near K.G .Halli Ring Road where he drowned them in a manhole, the same night, the police said.

He told the police that he first dropped the youngest child Raheem Baig, 4, and shouted out the eldest Ali Abbas Baig, 8, and sister Husna Begum, 6, that Raheem had fallen into the manhole. When they came running, he pushed them into the manhole and later went inside the manhole to check whether the bodies had been washed away. Fayum had an affair with Nazima begum, a garment factory employee and a resident of Pillanna Garden. Nazima was separated from her husband Ilyas Baig around six months ago after a domestic row, following which he went to Hyderabad leaving Nazima begum and their three children, the police said.

Inquiries revealed that Nazima had multiple affairs and one of them was with Fayum. He had expressed his desire to marry Nazima and had even asked his parents' permission. But the family had refused to accept Nazima as their daughter-in-law as she was divorced and had three children. He was enraged when he found Nazima with another man in her room and had vowed to take revenge.

He went near the school and met the three siblings who were returning home. Since the children knew Fayum, they ran towards him calling him 'chaacha, chaacha'. That was the last time the children were seen.
Nazima, after searching for the children frantically, filed a police complaint, suspecting that her husband could have taken the children. The police searched for the children, while a team was sent to Hyderabad to question Ilyas Baig. But his hand in the children’s disappearance was ruled out.

The case could have been cracked earlier if the mother had shared full information about her illicit affairs. “Nazima was using four mobile phones to communicate with her paramours. She did not reveal much about her affairs initially. But it was learnt that the woman had 4-5 paramours and was in constant touch with all of them. After a detailed probe, the police zeroed in on Fayum and picked him up for questioning, who admitted to killing the children,” said a senior police officer.

Based on his revelations, the police took him to the spot on Monday evening. With the help of the fire department, the body of the youngest child, Raheem, was fished out. The police suspended the search operation for the two other bodies as it turned dark and there was heavy water flow due to heavy rainfall. "The search will begin on Tuesday morning and the help of BWSSB officials will be sought," the police said.
