Sheena murder, latest: Bag seller, petrol pump man emerge key witnesses
Experts point out that police will need circumstantial evidence to prove the murder
Mumbai: It is now learnt that DNA tests have conclusively proved that the bones found in the Raigad forests were of Sheena Bora, the daughter allegedly murdered by former media honcho Indrani Mukerjea with the help of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and trusted driver Shyamvar Rai. Legal experts, however, point out that the police will need corroborative and circumstantial evidence to prove the murder.
Here are the latest developments:
1. Police have also revealed that call records of Indrani Mukerjea on April 25, 2012, place her at Pen the day Sheena Bora’s body was disposed of.
2. A petrol pump owner at Khopoli (near the dump site) remembers an unusual request by a driver – a demand for 10 litres of petrol. He will be among the keywitnesses in the case. Another important witness will be a bag seller at Dadar (West) who remembers Indrani buying two huge suitcases – “the largest that he had”. He remembers her more because the sale was lucrative, Rs 1500 per suitcase when the cost price was Rs 700. One was used to dump Sheena’s body and the other, police say, was probably to stuff Mikhael into after they went ahead with his murder.
3. The Enforcement Directorate has begun probing a case of alleged forex violation by INX Media, promoted by Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. The case pertains to the investment of three Mauritius-based companies in INX Media.
4. After judicial custody yesterday, Indrani is being kept in the coty’s only women’s prison in Byculla. The prison has 215 inmates, among whom is drug dealer Shashikala Patankar. Indrani is under strict vigil and has been shephered with 27 other murder convicts, according to reports.
5. Reports suggest that Indrani and Sanjeev flew down to Kolkata after Sheena’s death to attempt killing Mikhail. Mikhail has told police he fled Indrani’s house in Mumbai after she spiked his drink the day of the Sheena Bora murder. Police sources said the duo could have planned to hire a hitman.
