COIMBATORE: People should dream beyond attaining personal goals, urged Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union minister of science and technology.

He was speaking as the guest of honour at the 12th convocation ceremony held at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham here on Monday. Totally 5,021 graduating students belonged to the five campuses of the University at Amritapuri (Kollam), Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysuru and students from the various schools of engineering, business, arts and science; biotechnology, communication, social work, nanosciences, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and education.

In his convocation address, Dr Harsh Vardhan emphasised the importance of inculcating good values and encouraged the students to have a seemingly unattainable dream and try to achieve it — like the mission that he had taken up for polio immunisation. He said that people should dream beyond attaining personal goals, and move towards achieving something big for one’s fellow citizens and the humanity at large.

Mr Chandrasekaran CEO, TCS, spoke about the exciting times and the opportunities landscape. He shared some of life's lessons that included living by values, realising one's potential, having a set goal and charting out the path, thinking big, teamwork and learning, while living a healthy life.

After awarding the meritorious students with medals and prizes, the degree certificates were awarded to the graduating students.
