New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday declined to entertain a public interest petition to resolve the imbroglio at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune whose students are on strike for over two months opposing the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as chairman.
A bench of Chief Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice Amitav Roy dismissed the PIL filed by advocate Vineet Dhanda seeking the court’s intervention to resolve the crisis and to ensure transparency in the appointment of the institute chairman.
He said, “The disturbing part beside the strike by the students of the institution is the dragging of the students into unnecessary politics by various political parties hereby complicating the simple problem into an unsolvable problem at present.”
Meanwhile, Mr Chauhan met minister of state for information and broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore on Monday. I&B ministry officials, however, did not give details about the meeting.
On the campus, the mercury of protest was on the rise as the students threatened to launch a hunger strike for Mr Chauhan’s ouster as the fast by a faculty member for “immediate resolution” of the crisis entered its third day.
