Hyderabad: Burglars made a futile attempt to break into the State Bank of Hyderabad’s Shamirpet branch on Wednesday morning. The men fled after the fire alarm in the bank building went off and a police patrol arrived at the spot. The burglars abandoned their gas cutters and tools before running away.
The incident occurred at around 4 am at the SBH building. “They had attempted to cut the window grills located at the back of the building. When they were cutting the iron grills sparks erupted and the fire alarm went off. A police patrol which was nearby rushed to the spot. But before the cops entered the compound the criminals fled,” said inspector A. Sattaiah. The cops searched the area but could not catch the criminals.
Meanwhile, locals foiled a burglary at an Axis Bank ATM in Lalapet on Wednesday. The 25-year-old burglar was trying to cut the chest when locals noticed it and alerted the police.
The accused was identified as J. Nagaraju, a native of Mahbubnagar. “He had removed the guard of the main chest and cut the wire connected to the alarm. When he was trying to break the main chest, he was caught,” said Lalaguda Inspector T. Vamshi Krishna Rao. Police officials said there was no security guard at the bank's ATM. Police is checking whether the accused was earlier involved in similar crimes.
