2006 Mumbai train blasts: Judgement read out in 10 minutes
one of the accused Junaid allegedly procured bags, utensils, ammonium nitrate and detonators
Mumbai: A special MCOCA court in Mumbai on Friday convicted 12 of the 13 accused in the 2006 serial blasts case. The court has held them guilty under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), MCOCA, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), Explosives Act, Explosive Substances Act, Railways Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and Passport Act.
The whole process of pronouncing the judgment got over in 10 minutes. Advocate Shahid Nadeem Ansari, one of the defence lawyers, said, “It did not take even 10 minutes to pronounce the judgement.
The order was ready and as soon as the court proceedings began, the judge called out the names of the accused and announced on which count they have been held guilty.” The accused were brought to court at about 11.40 am and all of them seemed confident of getting acquitted but were shocked and did not react when the judge held them guilty. Confirming this, advocate Ansari said that the accused were “reactionless”.
The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad had identified two of the accused — Faisal Sheikh and Asif Khan Bashir Khan, alias Junaid — as the main conspirators. Faisal, who planted the bomb, is accused of working for LeT. Junaid allegedly procured bags, utensils, ammonium nitrate and detonators.
