KOCHI: Senior Congress leader A. K. Antony has said that the Congress-led United Democratic Front will come back to power in Kerala in the next assembly elections as the front is regarded as the ‘lesser evil’ of the political choices available in the state.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, the Congress Working Committee member said after evaluating all political parties, people will realise that only UDF will be able to protect the interest of the state.
Antony used the well-known Malayalam proverb ‘Thammil Bhedam Thomman’ to justify the chances of the UDF in the poll.
The senior leader reiterated his earlier observation that the CPM was responsible for injecting the poison of communalism amongst its cadres in the 1987 elections.
The organisationl problems in the Congress will be resolved amicably, he said, and added that leaders such as Oommen Chandy, V. M. Sudheeran and Ramesh Chennithala know very well the importance of maintaining unity in a moment of crisis.
Antony was in Kochi to launch the Saphalyam project in Thrikkakkara and to inaugurate the A. L. Jacob commemorative meeting.
