Excise department seals Feroz Shah Kotla bar for serving liquor on October 2
The resto-bar named ‘Outswinger’ was run by the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association
New Delhi: The resto-bar run by the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) within the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium premises was on Saturday sealed by the Delhi government's excise department for violation of government rules.
Apparently the bar named 'Outswinger' had served liquor to its member on October 2, 2013, which is celebrated as 'Gandhi Jayanti' and according to government regulation is a dry day.
While DDCA officials argued that they served liquor as matches of the now defunct Champions League T20 was being held, the excise department had served them a showcause notice to explain about the violation of the government order.
"We had served them showcause notices and we were not satisfied with their replies. A probe was carried and we found DDCA guilty of violating the government rules. Accordingly on September 10, we had served DDCA a notice that their bar will be sealed. Today we sealed the Outswinger bar," a senior Delhi government official told PTI.
When DDCA president Sneh Bansal was contacted, he admitted that the bar has been sealed but refused to comment on the reasons. "I haven't seen the copy of the government order. All I know is that the bar has been sealed," Bansal said.
