Over 14 contestants of the total 900 who applied made their way to the finale of the Face Of Chennai 2015. After a series of auditions and theme rounds, Suja Suryanila, 22, emerged victorious. A model and an Odyssey dancer, Suja has won several awards for her passion for culturals. “I was two-and-a-half-years old when I first started dancing. I have also received several awards nationally for Odyssey and am also a recipient of the CM award from Orissa. I even won the titles of Little Miss Orissa, Miss Kalinga and reached the finals of Mega Miss North-East,” she said.
Though her parents are from Chennai, Suja was born in Orissa and then moved on to Rajasthan when she was five. She pursued her B.Tech degree in computer science from National Institute of Technology, Silchair. “I have been modelling for a while now. I have always wanted to be famous. Beauty pageants are one such platform, for not just fame, but even to put out a message,” she said.
The finalists had to undergo three rounds, starting with elegant white saris for the first, beach theme for the second and evening gowns for the third. “My favourite was the final round, where we had to don candy pink gowns. They were so beautifully designed and every contestant looked adorable. It was a very tough competition and everyone did good. I am really happy I won and the feeling is out of the world,” she explained.
Suja, who is very close to her dad, shared, “My dad K Suresh Kumar, has supported me always and I had to prove my mettle to him. This is my way of making him proud.”
