Bengaluru: In another incident of animosity between foreign nationals and locals, a 23-year-old Congolese student, allegedly drunk, was assaulted and his car was damaged by over a dozen locals on Kammanahalli Main Road on Saturday morning. It is alleged that the student, Borguy Mavinga, a resident of Kammanahalli, was driving the car rashly, parked it haphazardly and was playing music loudly on Saturday morning when the locals attacked him.

Borguy’s advocate, Sarah, said that a complaint was registered at the Banaswadi police station. “Borguy had gone to drop his friend at Hebbal and was returning in his car. As he reached near his residence around 5.30 am, he stopped at an eatery on Kammanahalli Main Road to buy a bottle of water. A group of locals approached him and questioned him why he was driving rashly and had parked the car haphazardly. They also asked why he was playing music loudly early in the morning,” Sarah said.

“As the crowd started swelling, Borguy got scared and tried to rush to his car to drive away. But a few locals pounced on him and started assaulting him. They also threw stones at his car, broke the windshield and damaged his car,” Sarah said.

“He tried to get away, but the locals ran beside his car and tried to stop him when the car stalled on the footpath. The locals deflated the tyres, pulled Borguy out and beat him up again. The police arrived at the spot and took all of them to the station,” alleged Joseph, president, Congolese Students’ Association.

The locals complained to the police that a drunk Borguy had almost run over newspaper vendors and had parked the car in the middle of the road.

A senior police officer said that written complaints were taken from both parties and legal action was being contemplated against both. Borguy was subjected to alcometer test and was rushed to Sathya Hospital for treatment of his head injuries. He was later discharged. Borguy is a final year student of Bachelor of Computer Application at a private college at Byrathi Cross.
