Thiruvananthapuram: Tamil Nadu State Express Transport Corporation buses have stolen the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation’s title of being the killer buses with three back to back accidents caused by rash driving on the Kaliyikkavila-Karamana stretch in one week.

The Parassala police have decided to recommend to the Superintendent of police to bring the matter to the notice of Tamil Nadu State Transport Commissioner, if accidents continue.

In the first this week on September 3, an SETC from Chennai rammed into a KSRTC bus at Inchivila killing the driver Abdul Khader, 35 who was driving the latter bus. On September 5, another biker was grievously injured near Parassuvakkal.

Finally on September 10, Shibin Das, 27 was killed after a Tamil Nadu state bus rammed into his bike at Kottamam before dashing into a mini lorry.

It is pertinent to note that most of the accidents have happened between Udiyankulangara and Kaliyikkavila where the road is in perfect condition.

Mr Das was getting onto the main road from a petrol pump while Abdul Khader was driving his bus on the main road.

“Earlier passengers who were in a hurry used to board only KSRTC buses from Nagercoil as they reach faster due to our drivers who drive rashly. TNSTC was for people who wanted a safe journey. However over the years both the transport corporations have become equally rash,” said Sreenu, a student of Sun Engineering College, Tamil Nadu.

As per the Parassala Circle Inspector S Chandrakumar, the local police was yet to install a speed radar unlike in Attingal subdivision.

“We have registered cases against all the buses and an official intimation regarding this will be sent by DYSP Suresh Kumar to the respective RTOs,” he added. Around 20 of the Tamil Nadu state buses ply towards city daily.
