What started as a good evening out with friends turned sour for Deepa Radhakrishnan and her friends. Deepa, a working professional, and her friends were at the restaurant, The Farm, at Jubilee Hills, and an argument over the bill had bouncers at her table, asking them to leave.

Not to be taken lightly, Deepa wrote about the incident on Facebook and also posted the same as a review on Zomato. Deepa says, “We were at the restaurant from 9.30 pm onwards and had ordered for a particular dish but with prawns, which wasn’t on the menu but was suggested by the waiter. At around 1 am, when we asked for water, the waiter refused to serve regular water saying one would have to purchase bottled water. Later, the bill was given to us at 1.56 am, where we were charged extra for the prawns. We wanted to talk about it to the manager.”

While they refused to pay the bill until the manager came, they got up from the table. At that moment, bouncers were sent in, making sure they didn’t leave until the money was paid. “We just wanted to talk to the manager, or get a number at least. Instead, they gave me a landline number. We stepped out but not out of the restaurant premises and decided to wait there for the higher authorities. When I went to get my bike, I was stopped by the bouncer again,” she says.

“We just wanted to have a good experience at the place and with the confusion over the bill, we wanted to have a word with the manager. We were not going to leave the place without paying the bill. We were having a normal conversation. The only question I have is what was the need for bouncers to be sent in?” asks Deepa.

Meanwhile
Kishan, owner of the restaurant said: “There was no higher authority present at that time and as a policy we don’t let the owners talk to customers, especially that late at night. We have CCTV footage that shows that the staff did not ill-treat her. We will be taking legal action for tarnishing our image.”
