Facebook post on Mecca tragedy under scanner

Chennai: A Facebook post in Tamil expressing joy over the recent Mecca crane tragedy and subsequent comments on the post had come under police scanner on Sunday. The police said that a cyber team was examining the posts and contemplating possible legal action against the FB user for posting such comments, which were found to be highly volatile in nature.

 

The post, believed to be authored by one Vel Murugan and later commented on by R.K. Ramkay expressed joy over the tragic deaths. However, within hours a fake account with Vel Murgan's picture popped up in Facebook, which rained abuses on him. “It looks like the reaction from other group forced Vel Murugan to remove his volatile post from his account,” the police noted.
