RTC staffers miffed at GHMC entry
The GHMC commissioner will now be a part of the TSRTC board
Hyderabad: The TS Cabinet’s decision to hand over RTC city operations to the GHMC is drawing flak from corporation employees.
The GHMC with a backup of unutilised funds has been assigned the job of putting the RTC back in the black. The GHMC commissioner will now be a part of the TSRTC board. What role the GHMC commissioner will play is not clear.
“There is a provision in the GHMC Act that says the corporation has to arrange for local transport or fund local transport. A provision has been made for the GHMC to get involved in the functioning and partly fund the corporation,” said a senior RTC officer.
“There is no clarity on how much funds will be given to the RTC. On the board, the GHMC commissioner may ask for performance reports, details of operation etc. As of now it might not affect the functioning of TSRTC but in the future we do not know," he said.
RTC employees are not amused. “When the GHMC is not able to provide basic facilities in the city, how can they run the RTC,” said Employees Union member B. Venkatesh.
“The GHMC is known for its corruption. If RTC falls in the GHMC net, things will only get worse right from the management to employee affairs,” he said.
Mr A, Reddy from the Telangana Mazdoor Union said, “The GHMC should not be allowed into the RTC.”
