Hyderabad: AP scored highly on allotment of land, obtaining construction permits, complying with environment procedures, complying with labour regulations, obtaining infrastructure-related utilities, registering and complying with tax procedures, carrying out inspections and enforcing contracts.

As per the assessment, states are classified into leaders, aspiring leaders, acceleration required and jump start needed based on their performance.

No state was rated in the ‘leader’ category that is given for an overall implementation status of 75 per cent and above.

AP, along with Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Rajasthan, has been placed in the “aspiring leaders” category, while Telangana has been placed in the “acceleration required” category.

AP principal secretary, industries and commerce, S.S. Rawat said, “The exercise was on for the past two to three months.

The World Bank had sent a detailed questionnaire to all states and we responded. Later, the agency sent teams for verification. After bifurcation, our CM has given lot of attention on making the state conducive for setting up of industries.”

Among the initiatives launched by AP is a single desk clearance policy, which includes a dedicated portal wherein 20 clearances of 15 departments are given online. This ensures investors don’t need to make rounds of offices.

“We have also taken measures on implementing labour reforms and granting various permissions,” Mr Rawat added.
