Warangal: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday held a protest rally demanding the state government to officially celebrate September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day. Hundreds of party workers and leaders led by state president G. Kishan Reddy took part in the rally holding the National Flag.
The rally was conducted from the martyrs pylon at Adalat centre and marched towards the collectorate. But the police, in large numbers blocked the entrance to the collectorate. There was commotion in the area with the leaders trying to break the police chain. Unsuccessful and agitated, the leaders sat on the road on a dharna raising slogans against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao blocking traffic on the Warangal- Hyderabad highway. Later, the leaders were arrested and shifted to the Subedari police station. This brought things under control. The leaders were later released on personal assurance.
Speaking on the occasion, BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy slammed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and said he is resorting to cheap politics. “We will keep our fight alive until the state government officially conducts September 17 as Telangana Liberation Day. KCR is not giving any value to the hundreds of people who lost their lives fighting against the Nizams for the freedom of this land. All he cares about is votes,” said Mr Kishan Reddy. District leaders, Edla Ashok Reddy, Dr T. Rajeshwar Rao, M. Dharma Rao, Premender and others took part in the rally.
