Officials stop ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ of nonagenarian

The man moved out of the family, 30 years ago to stay in s cave inside the reserved forest

KRISHNAGIRI: In a bizarre case of faith ran too deep, a 90- year-old man was saved on Monday, a day before he planned to attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi’.

Ramachari had planned for the event on Tuesday, but he was saved due to the timely intervention of officials who were informed about the incident.

Ramachari of Gurupatti village, near Denkannikottai, 30 km from Hosur of Krishnagiri announced that he would attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ as per orders of the almighty who asked the old man to reach him.

“God came in my dream and informed that the time has come for me to attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ so that I will be with him in Siva logam” Ramachari said.

He was married to Rukkammal, 70, and has four sons and three daughters. The man moved out of the family, 30 years ago to stay in s cave inside the reserved forest close to his village.

According to Ramachari, he started living separately because of a dream in which God asked to meditate on him till the man was asked to attain ‘Jeeva Samadhi’.

“I obeyed him and wished to attain Samadhi according to the order of the god” Ramachari says.

His relatives following Ramachari’s wish made arrangements for the ritual deep inside the reserved forest where he used to meditate.

A 4x6 ft pit was dug the place close to the cave and kept ready for the burial.

Meanwhile, the Denkannikottai revenue officials were informed about the incidents. The officials went to the place and prevented the ritual from being held on Tuesday.

“ We stopped the event and his relatives have been warned that legal action would be initiated against them if the man was buried alive” P.K. Govindan, Denkani kottai thashildar told DC.
