Road show in Maldives to attract tourists to Kollam

KOLLAM: In an effort to make Kollam a destination for medical tourism, the tourism department will conduct a road show in Maldives soon to attract  tourist ships from Maldives, Lakshadweep, Sri Lanka  and Goa. 

Ships from these destinations will arrive at the port to explore  the possibilities of traditional and modern medical facilities available in the district.

Also,  after the arrival of ‘Industrial Century,’  the cargo ship that carried over 5,000 tonnes of cashew to Kollam from Africa after 47 years, the port will witness more ships docking in the coming days.

“Kollam has basic amenities to establish itself  as a centre of medical tourism. There is also a plan to bring health department authorities from Maldives and Lakshadweep to Kollam to make them aware of  efficient but cheap medical facilities available here. There should be a combined effort to attract tourists here for treatment,” said Mr P.I. Sheikh Pareeth, Director of Ports and Tourism. He was speaking at  a hospital-hotel meet organised by the DTPC to make preparations to welcome the tourist ships arriving in Kollam.

Cargo ships,  including those of Adani group  carrying dredgers for the Vizhinjam project,  and another hired by the Food Corporation of India carrying rice, will  arrive at the port this month.
