Chennai: Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy, who was here to participate in a senior Congress leader’s family wedding, preached the virtues of enforcing prohibition in Kerala.
Answering a media query on enforcing prohibition in Kerala at the city airport, Chandy said, “Yes, indeed, we face financial constraints, but the health and welfare of the state (Kerala) people is more important to us and hence we (government) are determined to enforce total prohibition.”
Interestingly, he did not give much for proponents of immediate enforcement of prohibition to celebrate either. Chandy who was quick to propose the virtues of enforcement of prohibition, said that they had closed 10 per cent of the liq-uor shops in the first year of enforcement of prohibition, and said that majority of the shops would be closed in five years and Kerala would be made liquor-free state in 10 years.
