Ultimatum for repairing roads
Collector Rajamanickam gives 15 days deadline
KOCHI: District collector M.G. Rajamanickam has issued an ultimatum to Public Works Department, National Highway Authority of India and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to carry out the road repair works within 15 days.
The failure to do it will compel the district administration to initiate action under Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), he warned.
He was addressing the media after a review meeting to discuss frequent accidents and traffic congestion along the Seaport – Airport Road in view of Monday’s accident that killed two people.
The review meeting discussed various measures to make the corridor safe and accident-free.
It has been decided to set up a traffic signal at Rajagiri junction, Chittethukara, at a cost of '10 lakhs which will be funded by Infopark. A proposal will be forwarded to Road Safety Authority in this regard.
Humps and speed breakers will be installed before the Infopark.
Representative of Roads and Bridges Development Corporation Kerala agreed to rectify the damages along the Chittethukara – Kalamassery stretch.
Another decision was to ban heavy vehicles on Seaport – Airport Road from 8.30 am to 9.30 am and 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm from Tuesday.
It has been observed that the vehicle fitness test being conducted near Collectorate Junction creates traffic congestion.
More than 150 vehicles are being brought for fitness test per day, said RTO K.M Shaji.
Thrikkakara municipal chairman P.I. Muhammad Ali agreed to identify another place for the purpose.
Parking along Kakkanad – Edachira Infopark – SmartCity road will be banned once its construction is completed. Parking along Chembumukku – Vazhakkala stretch along Civil Line Road will be restricted on one side.
