Forces from Chhattisgarh arriving for security cover in Telangana
20,000-strong police force and 30 bomb-disposal squads would be deployed
Hyderabad: The Telangana police would get help from forces of Chhattisgarh and elsewhere to enable it spread a strong security cordon for the Ganesh Festival.
Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy said Wednesday that along with the 20,000-strong police force and 30 bomb-disposal squads, as many as 120 patrolling vehicles and 17 interceptor vehicles would be deployed in city as part of the comprehensive security drill.
Expecting as many as 12,000 Ganesh idols for immersion this year, based on previous trends, the commissioner appealed to the public to immerse the idols installed at street level at the earliest, so as to lessen inconvenience and avoid traffic snarls in the final stage.
In order to check antisocial activities like pick-pocketing and eve-teasing, special crime teams and SHE teams would take up positions on the procession day. Since Tirumala Brahmotsavam is going on in AP, the forces from AP might not be given to the city. Even if they come, they will be in small numbers, said a police official.
28 JCB’s for idol immersion
As many as 28 JCB’s to lift idols, 500 workers and 100 supervisors will be employed at Tank Bund from the third day of the festival for immersion. Workers have been ordered to remove the immersed idols within 24 hours.
Fourteen government departments have made arrangements for the main procession on September 27. While GHMC will supply toilet facilities, lighting and road repairs, the Irrigation wing has already deployed the cranes on the bund. Except for the Khairatabad Ganesh, all idols will be immersed on September 27. The Khairatabad idol will start from the pandal on 27th night and will be immersed on 28th morning.
