Visakhapatnam: On the directives of the HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, district collector Dr N. Yuvraj has appointed additional joint collector D. Venkata Reddy as the inquiry officer to probe into the baton-charge by the police on students when they were protesting over the poor conditions of government-run hostels at the collectorate on Tuesday.

In a press release, Dr Yuvraj assured that an impartial inquiry would take place and all officers that were responsible for the incident would not be spared.
On the other hand, the police arrested various SFI leaders on Wednes-day too to crack down their bandh call given to all the educational institutes. All the opposition leaders of the city conducted a round-table meeting and faulted the attitude of the police and the government. They also asked the government to improve the facilities in the hostels and increase the mess bills.

MLC M.V.S. Sharma severely condemned the baton-charge on students who were peacefully protesting for their problems. “The police showed their highhandedness on Wednesday as well and arrested various leaders and students,” added Mr Sharma. The CPM leaders earlier visited various police stations where the students were kept, including Bheemili and Three Town police station.
