Mumbai: The inquiry into the alleged failure of Raigad Police has unraveled details pointing towards foul play in the high-profile Sheena Bora murder case. According to a media report, Police Inspector Subhash Mirge said his senior asked him not to file a murder case. The Superintendent of Police RD Shinde had asked him not to file an FIR or even an accidental death report.

Sheena was allegedly murdered by former INX media co-owner Indrani Mukerjea on April 2012 and the remains were recovered from Raigad forests the following month. Despite hints of murder - the half-burnt body, and a burnt suitcase lying nearby - Shinde instructed Mirge to make a diary entry and not file a First Information Report.

Such has been a lapse in the case that though the body was recovered after some villagers reported its presence on May 25 in 2012, forensic tests carried out on it revealed it was Sheena only in September 2015.

Mirge in his statement further said he had called Shinde from the spot after the body was recovered and narrated the entire scene to him. "I had started doing a panchanama, preparing to file a case of the murder. However, SP Shinde asked me not to file a First Information Report or even an Accidental Death Report (ADR), following which I made a station diary entry."

Following the order of his senior, Mirge's team buried the body at the spot where it was found and left the case at that.

The report mentioned that when Shinde was contacted he refused to discuss Mirge's statement, saying he was done with the paperwork of the incident and would submit the same to the appropriate authority soon.

Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev and driver Shyamvar Rai have been arrested on the charges of murdering Sheena and disposing of the body.
