Srinagar: A snake was on Thursday found in the overhead water supply tanker at the premises of the Public Heath Engineering Department here, triggering protests from local residents.
The PHE department has suspended a watchman and has sought explanation from a junior engineer in the wake of the incident.
People in the area protested and blocked the Jammu-Poonch National Highway after they came to know that a snake was found in the water supply tanker from where they were being supplied potable water, a police officer said.
Local residents called off the protest after the authorities promised to take action against the erring officers who were deployed to maintain cleanliness of the tanker, he said.
