Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has permitted three self-financing medical colleges to admit students  to 10 percent seats from other states in the management quota.

The colleges are P.K. Das Institute of Medical Sciences, Palakkad, Mount Zion Medical College, Pathanamthitta,  and DM Institute of Medical Sciences, Wayanad.

The order has to be ratified by the admission supervisory committee headed by Justice J.M. James.

These managements can admit students from any state, who appeared in an entrance examination,  if  the admission supervisory committee approves the proposal.

Earlier, the MCI  had denied them permission to admit students this year due to  lack of infrastructure. Following this,  these colleges had approached the High Court.

These colleges, which had signed an agreement with the government for admitting  students  to 50 percent seats in government quota, complained that it was difficult to get students from the state in the management quota as it is the last leg of admissions.

The MCI has fixed September 30 as the last date for medical admissions. However, there is an allegation that the decision may result in lack of transparency in the admission process and lead to sale of seats.
