Hyderabad: The Srisailam project has begun generating hydel power following the rise in water levels both at the dam and at the Jurala barrage upstream.

Power generation has commenced at two units in Jurala and one unit at Srisailam. TSGenco is planning to augment hydel production from other projects if inflows increase in the next few days.

TSGenco chairman D. Prabhakar Rao said, “Nearly 200 MW of hydel power is being produced in Jurala and Srisailam projects. Of this, Jurala accounts for 60 MW and Srisailam 150 MW.”

He said though TS had an installed capacity of 2,081 MW of hydel power, the plants had been lying idle due to scanty rainfall. The situation started improving only in the last one week. The water level at Jurala was 10.55 TMC on Friday against full storage capacity of 11.9 TMC. The project got inflows of 11,465 cusecs.
