Tiruchengode DSP commits suicide

Namakkal: In a shocking turn of events, the woman DSP of Trichengode, 26-year-old Vishnupriya, was found hanging from the ceiling hook  of  her bedroom in her official  residence here on Friday.

The officer, who is known to be an honest cop, had investigated the sensational murder of Dalit youth Gokul Raj, cracked the major ATM theft case within 24 hours. A suicide note was found in the room in which she was found hanging by a yellow coloured dupatta. However, the details of the suicide note have not been officially disclosed yet. But sources claim  she had stated that she did not wish to continue in police force, which is a “sacred service.

In the letter, she had also expressed her wish that no postmortem should be conducted on her body, sources said. Around 9 am on Friday, just hours before she ended her life, the DSP was seen pacifying the protesting government teachers who had demanded action against a traffic constable who had beaten up a government school teacher. She deftly controlled the protesters and headed back to the office to attend to official duties. Around 2 pm, she went to her official residence which is located on the first floor of the DSP's office.  However, as her mobile phone kept ringing and the DSP did not return to office, the staff went upstairs to call her.

The servant maid in her house knocked on the bedroom, but there was no response. As the maid looked through the window and found her hanging from the ceiling. The cops broke the door and retrieved the body,  On receiving information, Salem zone DIG Vidya Gulkarni and SP SR Senthil Kumar are investigating the case.

Vishnupriya, a native of   Cuddalore completed B.Sc in Mathematics and  cleared Group I in 2013. She was first appointed as assistant security officer at the secretariat and then posted at Trichengode in Namakkal district as DSP on  February 2 this year.

In her stint as DSP, Visnupriya investigated the sensational murder of Dalit youth Gokul Raj, but the main culprit Yuvaraj still remains elusive. In her suicide note, she reportedly stated that her death should not be linked to the probe into the murder of the Dalit youth. She also allegedly stated that she would like to work as revenue divisional officer.

When contacted, Namakkal SP SR Senthil Kumar refused to reveal the details of the suicide note or the cause for her suicide. Her body is in Salem GH and post-mortem is likely to be conducted on Saturday.
