Vellappally Natesan dismisses move to launch political party
Mr Natesan maintained that the Yogam was fighting for justice in the socio-economic and education sector
ALAPPUZHA: Scotching all speculations, SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said on Friday that the Yogam had no plans to launch a political party in the state.
His statement comes on the eve of the Yogam conclave to be held at Cherthala on Sunday which was expected to lay the roadmap for a political outfit.
Mr Natesan maintained that the Yogam was fighting for justice in the socio-economic and education sector. “The meeting on Sunday will formulate plans to take the fight forward with an ideological weapon. The current developments, including the ‘crucifixion’ controversy, would be discussed,” he said.
According to Yogam sources, the leaders of 138 unions, including the director board members, union presidents, vice-presidents and secretaries will attend the meeting.
This is for the second time in the last two years that Mr Natesan has developed cold feet after giving out hints of floating a political party.
He has been at the centre of a controversy over hobnobbing with the BJP and the RSS to wrest more political rights.
Sources said that Mr Nat-e-san fears that if the Yogam forms a political outfit, it stands to lose in the bargain.
It will be forced to give up posts in the Devaswom Board, educational institutions and other benefits which it currently enjoys.
On February11 last year, the Yogam had formed the ‘Kerala People’s Front,’ a backward communities’ organisation soon after its grand alliance with the NSS crumbled.
However, it did not create any impact on Kerala society. Two days after floating the front, Mr Natesan said that the Yogam would not form a political party and that ‘Kerala People’s Front’ would not have any political affiliation.
