Asaduddin Owaisi fears repeat of riots in India
Mr Owaisi noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in the UAE that there was nothing called the good Taliban
Hyderabad: In the backdrop of a rise in communal tensions, MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Saturday that there could be a repeat of the anti-Sikh and Gujarat riots if the thought processes of leaders do not change.
Speaking after launching the Telugu version of the book, 1984 Delhi, Gujarat Panchanama and System Failure, Mr Owaisi said: “Real facts have been brought to light about the Gujarat riots and we are sure that some justice will be done. I am sure that when people read this evidence it would change their mindset. This a constant fight which cannot be won in a few years.”
“Our Union agriculture minister made a statement that Raj Yoga will help boost farmer’s confidence. Our PM while inaugurating a hospital of the most richest man in the country said plastic surgery was done in India 4,000 years ago,” he said and added that they appeared to have forgotten Constitutional provisions.
He added, “Statements that the Quran and the Bible are not the atma of the country are shocking. The atma of the country is secularism and pluralism. I am proud to be a practising Muslim. It is high time that people decide on which path we want to take this nation.”
Mr Owaisi noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said in the UAE that there was nothing called the good Taliban and asked why the government was not challenging the bail given to Aseemanand.
“As a nation we have to decide as we are at a crucial time,” he said. What happened in 1984 and 2000 can happen again unless the police is made independent and accountable,” Mr Owaisi said.
