KOCHI: Two-and-half-year-old Devanandan, who was mauled by a stray dog while playing before his house in Kothamangalam two weeks back, and his family on Saturday joined a campaign for taking measures to control stray dog population in the state.

“His mother helped him register his thumb impression at a massive petition to be signed by 10 lakh students before forwarding it to the Prime Minister requesting immediate measures to control the strays in the wake of dog bites,” said an official of the Little Flower Hospital, Angamaly, where he is undergoing treatment.

The function was held at the hospital when he came along with his mother Ambili and uncle K. R. Rajesh for a follow-up. Devnandan, son of Thrikkariyur native Raveendran, was attacked by the stray dog while his mother went inside to bring him food.

He was bitten on both his eyes, head and the back of the neck. “The eye surgeries were carried out successfully. However, the mini monoka lacrimal stent will be removed only after three months. We’re confident he would recover full eyesight. All other injuries suffered in nose, cheeks and lips have been healed,” said Dr Elizabeth Joseph, a senior consultant in ophthalmology department.
