Cracks in ‘I’ group surface
The schism was evident as a section of the leaders stayed away from the meeting convened by Balakrishnan’s loyalists
THRISSUR: Amid the ongoing tussle between the ‘A’ and ‘I’ factions in Thrissur district unit of the Congress, fissures have developed within the ‘I’ group.
The divide in the ‘I’ faction came to the open with a section of leaders opposing the move to project the daughter of minister C. N. Balakrishnan as the mayoral candidate of Thrissur corporation if the UDF wins the civic poll scheduled to held next month.
Sources said that leaders like Therambil Ramakrishnan and M. P. Vincent are not in favour of the decision. The schism was evident as a section of the leaders stayed away from the meeting convened by Balakrishnan’s loyalists.
Balakrishnan’s daughter, C. B. Geetha, is the general secretary of the district unit of Mahila Congress. The development in the ‘I’ group surfaced in the background of the attempt to bury the tussle between the ‘A’ and ‘I’ factions in view of the forthcoming civic poll.
Leaders belonging to both factions are aware that the continuation of the group rivalry may boomerang on them during the elections.
