Hyderabad: One can experience the era of fifties and sixties at the Health Museum in the city where time has stalled for six decades.
The museum was established in 1953 and was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru.
Many of the educational boards have hung on the walls for decades. The museum has many biological exhibits stored in formaldehyde, including the human foetus at various stages, abnormal foetuses, cancers, internal human organs and snakes.
The exhibits are as old as the museum and some are decaying. The health department needs to spend a few thousands of rupees to get new exhibits which it has failed to do.
Despite all this, the museum attracts about 7,000 visitors, twice that of its neighbour, the state archaeological museum.
The two officials who work there sit without fans or lights the whole day as the building’s electricity supply has been cut by the state health education bureau of the health department for not clearing bills since two years.
The two employees pay money from their pockets for keeping the museum clean as the health department has completely abandoned the place.
