Hyderabad High Court
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has ordered the Telangana government that it will have to be strict in fining two-wheeler riders who take the vehicle out without wearing helmet.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Dilip B Bhosale and Justice SV Bhatt was dealing with a petition by Vudateneni Rama Rao of Ranga Reddy district, that was moved in 2010.

He had sought to declare as “illegal” the action of the respondents (government) in not implementing section 129 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Rules 430 and 486 of the Andhra Pradesh Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which were  enforceable from September 1, 1989.

A Sanjeev Kumar, special counsel for the government submitted before the court that the government was taking steps to implement the helmet rule and was imposing a Rs 100 fine on violators.

The bench, in response, ordered an increase in the fine amount to ensure better compliance.

Counsel replied that, as per the existing provision, while Rs  100 is the fine for those who were caught for the first time without a helmet, the find could go up to '300 for a second-time violation.

While asking counsel to implement the rule strictly and file the status report soon enough, the bench adjourned the matter to a later date.
