HyderabadThere is confusion over the session of Legislative Assembly and Council after September 23 due to Bakrid and Ganesh immersion. The government has a Constitutional obligation to summon the Legislature before six months between two sessions. The Governor convened the session commencing from September 23 before the deadline of September 25, thereby fulfilling the obligation. However, during the preparatory meeting with senior police officials on Monday with the Speaker of Assembly and chairman of Legislative Council, it was felt in view of Bakrid and Ganesh immersion in the city on September  23, providing security for the session may not be possible.

Since Bakrid now falls on September 25 instead of 24 as originally announced by the government, it is going to be equally important day as it is 9th day of Ganesh immersion in the city. Even in the past, the 3rd and 9th day of Ganesh immersion were considered important when compared to the final and 11th day Maha immersion. Police officials felt there must be a recess for few days, so that they could handle the situations better.

“The Business Advisory Committee which is supreme as far as Legislature business is concerned will be meeting immediately after adjournment of House on September  23 and will decide on what to do,” minister Harish Rao told this newspaper. Meanwhile, speaking to media on Monday, Mr Harish Rao said if Opposition wants to disturb the Assembly proceedings under some pretext or  the other, the government will move suspension of the members from the House.

“We have told the Opposition even in the last session that we will discuss all the issues raised by Opposition and by other members. We wish discussion should take place in Legislature, but if the Opposition wants to obstruct the proceedings, we will have to take action,” Mr Harish Rao said.
